Heritage & Craft
Every Caracoda Equestrian piece begins as a salvage mission, rescuing high-quality, antique saddle leather from a fate of decay. We hand-select pieces based on their patina and structural integrity, using traditional leatherworking tools to preserve the character of the grain. Each seam is hand-stitched using a saddle-stitch technique—a slow, deliberate process that ensures the thread will never unravel, unlike modern machine-sewn alternatives. This is not fast fashion; it is a commitment to longevity and the preservation of equestrian heritage.
Care & Maintenance
Antique saddle leather is a living material that deepens in character with mindful stewardship. To preserve the structural integrity and rich patina of your piece, we advise keeping it away from extreme direct heat and giving it a regular, gentle sweep with a soft, natural-bristle brush. Because this historic leather responds best to traditional methods, we have compiled comprehensive instructions for its cleaning, conditioning, and long-term preservation. Please read our full recommendations on our dedicated Leather Care page.
Shipping & Returns
We prepare every shipment from our workshop with the same care we put into the bags themselves. For details regarding our lead times, international transit, and our policy on returns and exchanges, please read our full Shipping Policy and Returns & Exchanges pages. If you have questions regarding a bespoke commission or require specific delivery accommodations, please contact the bench directly via our Enquiries page.
Collection: The Workbench Oddities
The spirit: The Workshop Pioneer / The Heritage Doublet
The inaugural study Inaugurating The Workbench Oddities collection, the Oddity No. I stands as a singular, experimental workshop study. This restored saddle leather crossbody doublet is not merely constructed; it is resurrected directly from authentic, vintage horse saddlery. It sets the foundational tone for the archive, balancing a tough, uncompromising spirit with a highly functional, classic silhouette.
The salvage & the tactile experience Every crease, mark, and deep hue upon the leather serves as a physical testament to its historical journey. Sourced entirely from genuine antique saddles and bridle reins, the heavy hide possesses a deeply comforting, traditional scent alongside an exceptionally durable, broken-in feel from the first day. True to our rigorous standards, only the heavy-duty thread and solid hardware are newly introduced; the entirety of the leather body and sturdy strapping is reclaimed equestrian heritage.
The architecture & the modern companion Forged by hand with sixteen years of traditional leatherwork experience, this piece translates heavy-duty tack into a highly protective daily companion. Operating as a structural doublet, it offers a beautifully layered interior for modern provisions. It relies strictly upon old tools and proven workshop methods, permanently bound by the time-honoured twin-needle saddle stitch. This unbreakable seam ensures the structural integrity of the doublet will endure for generations. Produced in absolute isolation as an experimental piece, it acts as a physical fortress for the road ahead, with not another exact match in existence.
